It reminded me of a breakfast hash without the potato. This one was crispy and I especially enjoyed the peppers and onions. It was one of the only reasons I frequented Yummy House before they were closed numerous times for health code violations and slid in quality. My only regret was not saving it for the end so I could savor the flavor in mouth for a little longer. Some places also have terrible egg inside. It seems simple enough, but the crust is really the key and so many places get it wrong. One of my favorite dim sum choices is the egg tart. I have long hoped for more dim sum options in Tampa, but that doesn’t seem to be materializing and it remains to see what kind of effect this drop in business will have on Chinese businesses. Lord knows that Yummy House in Tampa doesn’t even come close to any of the places in Orlando. It’s hard to find a good dim sum spot in Florida, nothing really compares to all the great spots in San Francisco. Most people visit because Chuan Lu is open until 2AM and is a reliable late-night option, but for me it’s all about dim sum for breakfast. I have checked out a few dim sum spots nearby such as Peter’s Kitchen and Ming’s Bistro, but neither were as good as Chuan Lu Garden despite being more popular and busier establishments. I decided to eat at my one of my favorite Chinese spots in Orlando during my last visit in Mills 50 District called Chuan Lu Garden. While there is nothing wrong with being prepared and conscious of what’s happening around the globe, there’s a simple fact that this virus is not in Florida at this time. Some Chinese restaurants in Orlando are reporting a 20-30% drop in business despite that fact that there isn’t a single case of coronavirus in Florida. Chinese eateries are seeing a decline in business due to Coronavirus fears spreading throughout the United States and arguably the planet. Maybe not up to par compared to big-city dim sum, but considering there is no Chinatown in Orlando, Chan's did a good job of satisfying my dim sum craving for the new year.We live in strange times. For those who like everything extra hot and spicy, a small dish of chilis in oil was on the table. ![]() This is Cantonese food so its flavors and spice are less aggressive than the popular Schezuan style, making it a more child-friendly adventure into new foods. There were a lot more to try but by that time we were pretty stuffed. texture like watercress w/o the peppery taste) was the only item in the vegetable family it was delish. Our favorites were the fried taro balls will a meat filling and the sesame seed balls with sweet bean paste filling. We had shrimp and pork dumplings, pork bao buns, sticky rice, red roast pork, shrimp in rice paste, and congee. Service was quick and friendly and the dim sum was hot and fresh and less greasy than I remembered. By that time, the 10-person tables were mostly full and there were probably 20+ people waiting for smaller tables. We got food fast and furious and were stuffed by noon. Got there just before 11:30am and there was no waiting, but the restaurant was 2/3 full so the carts were out in full force. dim sum seemed like the obvious choice for celebrating! I haven't been to Chan's for many years, but based on recent reviews, we decided to go a little early which was definitely the right call!. This year, the Lunar New Year fell on a Sunday.
